Research context
L-Carnitine is not a peptide. It is an endogenous carrier molecule central to fatty-acid transport: long-chain acyl groups cannot cross the inner mitochondrial membrane unaided, and carnitine palmitoyltransferase uses L-carnitine to carry them through. Research interest centres on substrate handling, mitochondrial fatty-acid oxidation and models of carnitine deficiency.
