Argireline was described by Blanes-Mira and colleagues as a hexapeptide that competes with SNAP-25 for the SNARE complex and thereby destabilises vesicle fusion machinery in cell-free systems. It remains the reference compound in the cosmetic neuropeptide literature and is routinely used as a comparator for newer analogues such as Snap-8.
